What was suppossed to be a 350km ride turned into a 500km ride, as Hanoi bikers suggested we take a different route which is off AH1. This road is supposed to have less traffic and technically it did, just that there was a bit of offroading involved and of course the longer distance. 3 bikes, including mine ended up with nails in the back tires.
We stopped for lunch at this restaurant that also happened to be holding a wedding, and no prize for guessing, but the newlyweds posed with one of the bikes. Initially we were wondering where is the groom as the bride seems to be with her father, then we realised, the old dude IS the groom. It's some old Taiwanese who has "bought" himself a new wife. I shall not judge, you never know, 40 years from now that's what i'll be doing.
Market in Ha Long |
Ha Long is a very touristy town famous for it's limestone caves, some dating back 500 years. In order to visit, you go on these junks, where you'll have a guide as well as lunch served on board. So it was a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean moment for us, especially with the myth(maybe not) of how these caves were used to store armament during Vietnam war.
These boats would chase the junks selling them fruits or rod and bait |
We'll attack as soon as we see land! |
It's windy on the way there but once inside the bay surrounded by the islands everything became so calm. Basically this is how the fishermen take shelter from the storm. I forgot to charge my camera's battery the night before which accounts for the lack of more shots in the caves.
Our guide seems to be more excited...haha |
We stopped by the floating market as well to check out fresh seafood, but the prices were a bit of a killer though. Works fine as the dish they prepared on board was more than enough.
